The Inland Waterways Association has chosen Burton-upon-Trent as the site for its 2022 Festival of Water. The event, which is a successor to the former National Waterways Festival, is held at a different site each year. Since 2014 (but with a break in 2020 as a result of Covid) it has visited Saul Junction, Northampton, Pelsall, Ilkeston, St Neots, Waltham Abbey and Worcester. It takes place on the Trent & Mersey Canal over the three days of the bank holiday weekend on 27-29 August. Burton is no stranger to IWA events, having hosted the National Festival in 2004 and 2009. The event will be free to enter for the public (those attending by boat will be able to book in via waterways.org.uk) and will feature visiting historic boats and other craft, canal society displays, craft stalls, food and entertainments, with IWA promising a full programme of music and danceat a bank holiday weekend of fun for all who love spending time by the water.
