UK approves CCGT power plant

The UK government has approved construction of a 1,500MW combined-cyclegas turbine (CCGT) power plant at ThorpeMarsh in Doncaster, northern England.The Department of Energy and ClimateChange (Decc) has given the project section-36 consent, paving the way for construction of the ￡984mn ($1.6bn) plant,to be developed by UK-based firm AcornPower Developments. Consent for theproject, which is dependent on it beingcarbon capture ready, comes amid uncertainty for project developers in the UK,where the government is planning reformsto the wholesale electricity market.
