Set on the edge of the dramatic River Wear gorge, this neighbourhood of 91 houses and 41 apartments is inspired by the history, topography and rich cultural heritage of Sunderland. The new community is designed around high-density living and working with sustainable ambitions. The housing is arranged around mews streets and courtyards in five clusters, each with a distinctive character. The new community is designed to be convivial. All dwellings are equipped with home-working spaces, with houses designed as places to work, live and play. Car parking is located off-site, so that streets can be preserved for community life, in addition to public squares and play areas that also act as forum for both organised events and informal interactions.
