In a week or so,Gazprom hopes to sign a long-awaited gas supply agreement with China.But the fact the two sides have yet to agree a base price suggests a deal is by no means guaranteed. Discussions between Gazprom and CNPC have been under way for the best part of a decade.On a number of occasions,the Russian firm has claimed to be close to signing a contract with its Chinese counterpart.In December 2013,Gazprom chief executive Alexei Miller said a deal would be signed in February of this year,and in October 2013 he had suggested that agreement could be reached before the end of that year.But nothing materialised,with price the perennial sticking point.
