Speakers agreed that next winter is the bigger issue for Europe, as replenishing gas storage in 2023 will be harder than in 2022, given that the region has received Russian gas this year. Com-panies say they are doing what they can. TotalEnergies chief executive Patrick Pouyanne said his company will continue to ship 4mn t/yr of Russian LNG to Europe from its 20pc stake in private-sector producer Novatek’s 17mn t/yr Yamal LNG proj-ect, “as long as there is no sanction… on the gas”.
