Several Australian battery material producers are weighing up opportunities to develop further downstream into electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing, although partnerships with international auto manufacturers may be needed to help plans progress. “We have all the components to produce batteries right here in Australia,” Perth-based Mineral Resources (Minres) managing director Chris Ellison says, adding that the company, which already produces spodumene concentrate and lithium hydroxide, is looking to enter into joint venture (JV) arrangements to manufacture battery cells domestically. “All we need is a company with the ambition and the international partnerships and investment to get it done,” Ellison adds.
