Nord Stream 2 date named

The company set up to operate the pro- posed Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline has named a date for the start of construc- tion after choosing pipe suppliers. Work on two lines with a combined capacity of 55bn m~3/yr will start in early 2018, the operator said on 11 March. Some of the pipes will be delivered as soon as September. Germany’s Europipe was selected to supply 40pc of the 2,500km of large-diameter pipe required for the project. Russia’s OMK will pro- vide 33pc and Chelyabinsk Pipe-Rolling Plant (Chelpipe) 27pc.
