Rosneft to enter Egypt

Rosneft is to buy a 30pc stake in Egypt’s 850bn m~3 Zohr gas field from Italian company Eni for $1.125bn. The Russian firm will reimburse Eni for its investment in the field, which currently stands at $450mn. Eni’s agreement with Rosneft comes with the same terms as a deal to sell a 10pc stake to BP for $375mn. And, like BP, the Russian firm has the option to acquire a further 5pc under the same terms. The deal will leave Eni with a 60pc operating interest in the offshore Shorouk block that includes the field.
