UK spark spreads remained firm in early June as the EU's large combustion plant directive (LCPD) tightened power sys- tem margins. Day-ahead spark spreads reached highs of almost pound 54/MWh in early June, as operators of coal-fired plant opted to take generation off stream, at least for the time being. The tightening UK supply margins come against a background of summer maintenance, which has taken a number of nuclear plant offline.
