Gazprom may renegotiate India LNG deal

Gazprom will decide within six months whether or not to renegotiate a long-term LNG supply agreement with Indian state-controlled gas distributor Gail, chairman Alexei Miller said during a visit to India on 15 October. Gail wants to change the period in which it has agreed to increase the amount of LNG imported from Gazprom, Miller said. Gail originally signed a supply deal with Gazprom in 2012 to import 2.5mn t/yr of LNG for 20 years from 2019. But after Gazprom agreed in 2014 to buy up to 3mn t/yr from the Novatek-led 16.5mn t/yr Yamal LNG project, the contract with Gail was expanded to 3.5mn t/yr and its duration extended by five years to 25 years. The price of the LNG to be supplied to Gail is oil-linked.
