New citizen’s initiative paves way for EU-wide ban on fur farming

A new citizen’s initiative to ban the farming of animals for fur production and the sale of fur products on the EU market has been submitted to the European Commission. On 14 June, the European Citizen’s Initiative (ECI) ‘Fur Free Europe’ was formally presented to the Commission after having reached 1.5 million signatures. This exceeds the required one million signatures obtained within one year from at least seven member states to prompt a response from the EU executive.
