Statoil makes Shtokman pitch

Norway’s Statoil has put forward alternative plans to develop the 3.9 trillion m3 Shtokman field that could reduce project costs. Statoil vice-president for business development Ali Majeed proposed two options for the Barents Sea field at a meeting of the Russian Gas Society (RGS) last week. Neither features the $10bn floating production unit (FPU), the most challenging and expensive offshore element of the project, as previously envisaged.
