? 2021, Scibulcom Ltd.. All rights reserved.1,2-bis(4-amino phenyl) ethane-1,2-dione is prepared by oxidation of 4,4′-diamino benzoin. The preparation of 4,4′-diamino benzoin itself can be achieved from simple starting materials like aromatic aldehydes through the formation of benzoin followed by oxidation. The compound 1,2-bis(4-amino phenyl) ethane-1,2-dione was synthesised and then purified. The compounds were characterised using IR, UV and NMR spectral studies which are used to determine the presence of functional groups and types of transitions. In vitro antioxidant and antibacterial activities were also studied. Biochemical investigations revealed significant biological activity compared to those of respective controls.
