摘要

Food irradiation was first explored in the 1930s. At about the same time, pasteurization of milk was implemented to control tuberculosis. Soon after, in the 1940s, sulfas and antibiotics entered use, and the United States and Russia developed programs to explore food irradiation and bacterial phages to control infectious diseases.
