More has been written on the Japanese Black Pine than any other species used in bonsai culture. In Japan complete volumes are devoted solely to the Japanese Black Pine. In fact a three-volume series was published in the 1970s covering everything fromcultivating seed to repotting to developing the Japanese Black Pine as bonsai. Numerous articles appear in western publications, too. Why is so much study devoted to one tree?
