Japan’s aluminium imports rise on year

Japanese imports of primary aluminium in December in- creased from a year earlier alongside frmer demand for aluminium products. Imports of aluminium ingots in December, at 106,400t, rose by 3pc from a year earlier but fell by 6pc from a month ago, according to preliminary data released by the fnance minis- try. The imports were valued at ￥36.6bn ($321mn), up from ￥20.9bn in December 2020. Total shipments also rose by 20pc from 2020 to 1.4mn t in 2021.
