When a piece of technology is acknowledged as an industry workhorse, the work put in over many years to keep it in operating condition is considerable. But technology changes, and can add to operational longevity. The V2500 engine family from IAE International Aero Engines is one such workhorse. As IAE's president Earl Exum notes, the family currently powers more than 3,000 aircraft with more than 200 customers, operating passenger, cargo and military missions. "The engine has powered the Airbus A320ceo family for decades and is now also the powerplant for the first A321 passenger-to-cargo conversion, as well as the Embraer C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft," Exum says.
