The Marine Nationale also needs a fully interoperable fighter to co-operate with other friendly navies, including the omnipresent US Navy. The adoption for nuclear aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle of catapults and arresting gears of US origin de facto led to a full technical interoperability between the Rafale on one side and the US carriers on the other. The French Rafale is also fully capable of aligning its gyrolaser inertial navigation systems while at sea on board a foreign 'flat top' to ensure a very high level of navigation precision.
