Canadian resources company Sherritt International expects production at the Ambatovy nickel and cobalt mine in Madagascar to be curtailed, after workers went on strike last week. The strike began on 16 March and continues despite ef- forts to reach a resolution, the company said. The mine is running at lower capacity as result of the strike, reducing the amount of ore sent to the Toamasina processing plant, where work continues. Ambatovy had reached a production rate equivalent to 54,000 t/yr of nickel — around 90pc of capacity — before the strike, Sherritt said.
