Operations at Vale Fertilizantes’ Tiplam terminal in Santos were halted after a fire broke out in a sulphur conveyor belt on Sunday 14 September. The flames were contained before reaching the sulphur warehouse and more crucially the nearby highly explosive ammonium nitrate storage facilities. No injuries were reported. The vessel discharging the tonnage was Koch′s MV Wuhu with 33,906t from Corpus Christi, US. Discharge operations of bulk fertilizers at the terminal have been halted and normal operations will only resume once a structural analysis has been finalized and safety measures are in place. Some say the vessel discharge schedule will be affected for at least four weeks.
