In June 2014 German sulphur exports were limited to just 18,000t, well down on June 2013’s 40,000t. This followed on from May’s 31,000t, which was well down on May 2013’s 56,000t. Declining production in the German gas fields and German domestic customers taking priority is behind the trend. Another factor is that the Polish molten sulphur carrier MV Mitrope (15,000t) was taken out of service in Europe in Dec 2013 (moving to USA) so no longer moving German molten. Meanwhile the Sulphur Genesis (3,700t) is too small for the Moroccan market and the MV Charlotte (10,000t) is under charter to TOTAL for Morocco, so not available for Exxon/Shell.
