Thermal crack resistance is the most important characteristic of disc brake rotors for trucks. Therefore, we have developed a disc brake rotor material with excellent thermal crack resistance. We have found that thermal crack resistance of the said material is improved in proportion to the graphite number in the microstructure, which increases in proportion to carbon content. However, as carbon content increases tensile strength decreases. Accordingly, the improvement of tensile strength has been achieved by alloying cast iron with high carbon content We have confirmed the improvement in thermal crack resistance and wear of the disc brake rotor material with dynamometer simulate test.
