Potash corp 1Q 2014 results

Potash Corp has posted a first quarter profit of$340mn on revenue of$1,680mn.Profits are up 9pc on the last quarter of 2013,but still down 39pc on the first quarter of 2013. Potash sales in the first quarter totalled$671mn from total tonnage of 2.31mn t MOP.PCS’received price for MOP fell again from the previous quarter,down to an average of $250/t from$282/t in the fourth quarter 2013.The drop was particularly acute in North American sales,where the average realized price declined from$343/t in the fourth quarter 2013 to$295/t in the first quarter 2014.Offshore prices also fell,with PCS reporting average prices of$217/t, a further$10/t reduction from 4Q 2013.PCS continues to target the North American market aggressively,with sales volume in the region up nearly 25pc in 1Q 2014 on 1Q 2013.
