In the first eight months of the year, Australia increased its imports of sulphur by 44pc, to total 789,000t, despite reports in April of this year that a six week maintenance program at First Quantum Minerals' (FQM) Ravenshorpe nickel operation in Western Australia saw sulphur deliveries being pushed back and consumption reduced. Ravensthorpe imports around 450,000t/yr of sulphur when running at full capacity.
