Typhoon Kalmaegi swept across the ports of Beihai and Fangcheng in southern China on the evening of 16 September. Both ports were closed as a result, and heavy rains continued through 17 September. Both Kailin and YUC were confirming losses were inevitable at these ports but the extent of damage is currently unknown. In July, southern Chinese ports were damaged by Typhoon Rammasun; indeed the port of Fangcheng was still recovering from the damages caused by this earlier typhoon. The bridges connecting vessel berths and warehouses were not all working while conveyor belts were also partially down.
