Chinese balk at import prices, bank on domestic decline

Chinese buyers are balking at lofty thermal coal import prices as they bank on domestic price declines continuing. Evidence of the politically promised improvements in domestic output remain thin on the ground though, with mine inventories said to be relatively low. Some are beginning to question whether domestic production can indeed ramp-up quickly enough to meet near-term demand.
