US primary Al imports pick up in 3Q

US imports of unalloyed primary aluminum rose in the third quarter from a year earlier, reversing a trend of lagging inven- tory replacement. Third quarter imports of prime climbed by 5pc to 436,400t, the frst quarterly gain in 2021, on sharp increases in Australian and Russian shipments. Canadian shipments were little changed from a year earlier at 346,900t, while Australian shipments more than quadrupled to 26,600t and imports from Russian increased almost tenfold to 22,100t.
