Russian winter grain planting rises

Russian planting of winter grains, mainly wheat, are forecast to rise by more than 1m hectares in 2016-17, according to SovEcon, suggesting the country will reap its fourth succes- sive bumper harvest. Offcial fgures from SovEcon showed plantings at 17.2m hectares as of 11 November, than 1m ha ahead year-on-year. Plantings should be completed in three weeks in parts of southern Russia and the total area should exceed 18m ha by then, according to the company.
