THIS YEAR'S SIR Denis Rooke Memorial Lecture,which took place on 23 March at 11 Cavendish Square,London,was delivered by The Rt Hon John Gummer,Lord Deben.Lord Deben set up and runs Sancroft,a corporate responsibility consultancy working with blue-chip companies around the world on environmental,social and ethical issues.He is also Chair of the Committee on Climate Change,Valpak Limited and the Personal Investment Management & Financial Advisers Association.Lord Deben was also the longest serving Secretary of State for the Environment that the UK has ever had,serving from 1993 to 1997-In his welcome speech,IGEM President Ben Clarke said:"It's an absolute privilege to be here in person.I didn't think when I was planning my presidential year that we would still be wrestling quite so much with the challenges caused by Covid,but nevertheless it is an absolute joy to see so many folk have turned out to join us on this excellent evening.I'm therefore exceptionally pleased to be able to introduce tonight's speaker."
