It's an extraordinary thought, because there will soon be 16 billion feet that need footwear. This is a huge market for shoemakers to share, explained Desma's co-MD, Christian Decker, in his presentation entitled Desma 4.0. Like most industries, footwear suffered through the Covid-19 pandemic, with a 22.2% downturn. The market is now recovering, but shoe consumption — counted in pairs per capita per year — remains below pre-pandemic levels.
