Copper production in Chile went up 5% year-on-year (y/y) to 462,000 t in July. The increase for the first seven months of the year was 1.4% to 3.3 Mt. The numbers indicate that the country's miners are maintaining production and expansion plans despite ongoing health protocols to counter the spread of Covid-19. However, state-owned Codelco turned out 4.4% less copper y/y at 133,300 t in July, according to data from government agency Cochilco. Output at Escondida mine went up 3.8% y/y to 100,900 t in July and Collahuasi increased production by 22.8% y/y to 58,100 t.
