MRCGP Recorded Consultation Assessment 2020

In May 2020, work commenced on the development of the Recorded Consultation Assessment (RCA) to replace the Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA) part of the MRCGP tripos of assessments required for all GP trainees to gain approval for independent practice. The social distance and travel restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic made the CSA impossible to run, and a replacement assessment was needed. Many candidates in specialty trainee year 3 (ST3) and beyond were, therefore, facing uncertainty about their future work with delays to their certification.
