To be or not to be! Never before has this humble nonchalant opening phrase of soliloquy by PrinceHamlet been more prevalent. The world is forever divided into: to take the shot or not to; to open theschools or not to; to wear the masks or not to! As Covid-19 surged last year, governments worldwidetouted the hope of “herd immunity," a promised land where the virus stopped spreading exponentiallybecause enough people were protected against it. That’s now looking like a fantasy. The thinking wasthat the pandemic would ebb and then mostly fade once a chunk of the population, possibly 60 to 70 %,was vaccinated or had resistance through a previous infection.
