Bayer to acquire Monsanto for $66bn

German chemical company Bayer will acquire US seed and herbicide producer Monsanto for $66bn. The merger is expected to close by 2017, pending regulatory and shareholder approval. Bayer also committed to a $2bn antitrust break fee, to be paid to Monsanto if regulatory approval is not obtained.
