Wet conditions hinder US maize, soy harvests

The US maize harvest continues to lag behind last year's pace and the five-year average amid wet conditions, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). Nationally, 35pc of maize has been harvested, down by three percentage points on both last year’s crop and the 2011-15 average. But the total harvested has climbed nine points from last week’s figure.
