Co-operatives are having to lend money and/or advance credit to some farmers to fund inputs because the cash raised from the harvest is inadequate. Crop prices are generally low, and a lack of rainfall means that it is too dry to start planting oilseed rape for next season, while the maize harvest is threatened by drought. The lack of moisture is also affecting yields of other late harvesting crops.
