The US corn and soybean harvests are lagging behind their respective fve-year averages as a result of wet feld condi- tions in the Midwest, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). Ongoing rainfall in the west of the Corn Belt limited feld work to just three days for the week ended 18 September, hampering the region's corn harvest, in turn affecting totals for the US as a whole.
