Sugarcane crushing in the Centre/South could reach 546.55 million tonnes in 2022/23, up 4.22% from 523.44 million last season, according to Pecege. This is up from its August projection of 539.80 million tonnes for the current season. The average cane yield should be 73.13 tonnes per ha, a 7.28% increase from 67.80 tonnes in the previous crop. For the next season, 2023/24, Pecege's expectation is for an increase of 4.5% to 76.60 tonnes. Total ATR is expected to rise 3.86% to 77.8 million tonnes, according to the latest estimate, while the average ATR is seen almost unchanged at 142.35 kg per tonne of cane.
