Gas brands saw a double-digit net gain in the second quarter of 2023, after a quarter in which they added few sites and brand transactions sank to a multi-year low, according to the OPIS Q2 2023 Gas Station Brand Conversion Study. In recent quarters, brand activity has declined since inflation spiked in late 2021 and higher interest rates drove up the cost of station upgrades. The total brand conversions outnumbered de-brands for a 14th straight quarter. Branded gas stations made a comeback during pandemic, offsetting several years of net declines, an OPIS analysis shows.
