This study utilised the National (Nationwide) Impatient Sample (NIS), which is part of the Healthcare Cost and utilization Project (HCUP). A study was conducted to determine the incidence and cost of management of hepatitis C (HC) and cirrhosis (C) patients. The incidence rate of HC is 34% and C is 30%. HC is higher in the age group of 21-65-year old's whereas C prevalent in people that are 66-80+ years. The HC count is higher for Medicaid and, C is for Medicare payment methods. HC patients have a high emergency admission rate. C patients show higher rate to transfer to a short-term hospital, home healthcare, length of stay in the hospital, death rate during hospitalisation, frequency of biopsy procedures, charges for liver transplant, charges for admission to the trauma centre as well as emergency admission. 62% of males have HC and 61% have C. For females 37% have HC and 39% C. HC and C is higher in urban locations and low-income group. In average liver transplant is higher for the age group of 21 to 80 years. Asian people are less predisposed to getting HC.
