ITALY has rapidly finalised its latest deals to secure fresh supplies from Africa to help replace gas currently piped from Russia. In early April, the Italian government, working closely with Eni, clinched deals to boost gas imports from Algeria and Egypt. These latest deals are in sub-Saharan Africa. One agreement covers supplies from Congo-Brazzaville, where Eni has a significant presence, while the other relates to Angola, another country that counts as a heartland for the Italian player.
