Russian deputy energy minister Pavel Sorokin said April 21 that the ministry does not expect current discounts on Russian exports to be long term."The discounts that we are seeing, yes, they are the result of illegal pressure, but we do not believe that this can be maintained in the long term under the normal functioning of the market,"Sorokin said, during a meeting of the energy ministry's public council.Since Russia invaded Ukraine Feb.24,Russian crude has traded at significant discounts.Buyers have shied away from Russian shipments because of sanctions and the risk of further restrictions. Some sanctioning countries have also announced plans to wind down imports of Russian crude.
