Coconut palm, botanically known as Cocos nucifera, belongs to family Arecaceae, an important member of monocotyledons. India is the third largest producer of coconut and has a rich diversity of coconut types. ICAR-CPCRI has a total of 455 germplasm holdings in its genebanks maintained at Kasaragod and Kidu. Coconuts with different traits are available in the germplasm collections available at ICAR-CPCRI.
