The new-found concept of private chawki rearing centre is gaining ground as farmers are finding it convenient to rear the chawki silkworms in place of seeds, which saves them considerable time and labour. The authors present here a story of rewarding experience of an entrepreneur in Andhra Pradesh. Details: The chawki rearing of silkworms is a vital stage in rearing as it has major influence on cocoon production. Temperature, humidity and leaf quality are the three key factors influencing the chawki rearing. Hence, maintaining these conditions at every step is very important, and calls for provision of a separate chamber. Any alteration in these factors will influence during the later ages of silkworm rearing leading to crop losses.
