Numerous designs of non-ballasted track have experienced severalphases of further development. During the period from 1993 until1996, longer section of non-ballasted track were installed on anumber of line extensions and in the Berlin S-Bahn system, prompting asurge of innovation in the civil engineering industry which has ledto numerous advances and design improvements in the field of thenon-ballasted track. The paper gives an overview of the current stateof non-ballasted track development and trials and classifies anddescribes The different design variants.
