2-Mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) and its derivatives have been used to protect copper and copper alloys against corrosion.MBT is an important vulcanization catalyst in the rubber industry.It also plays a role in analysis as a reagent for cadmium as well as for the determination of copper,lead,bismuth,silver,mercury,thallium,gold,platinum and iridium.
