One of the largest U.S. convenience store chains, GPMInvestments LLC, of Richmond, Virginia, faces a wrongfuldeath suit brought by the mother of a cashier who was shot byan armed robber at one of its E-Z Mart stores in Texas in 2020.Virginia Smotherman, mother of 40-year-old PollyannaSmotherman, recently filed suit in the Harris County DistrictCourt in Texas against GPM, affiliate GPM Southeast LLC andHouston alarm company Counterforce asking for more than$1 million in damages. The suit alleges "negligent" lack ofsecurity at the store resulted in the cashier's death.GPM did not respond to repeated requests for commentby email or phone.
