In groups of eight to ten, the patients walk through the store on simulated shopping trips led by an expert dietitian. They practice picking up foodstuffs; studying nutrition labels; and learning howto engage in healthy shopping, food preparation, and eating. After all, in the day-to-day struggle that patients with diabetes face, these are among the most critical skills they will need to manage their condition and prevent it from getting worse.
