(R/S)-4-Amino-3-hydroxybutanoic acid(GABOB)is a drug with known neuromodulator,anti-epileptic and hypotensive activity.(R)-GABOB(4)is a compound of great pharmacological importance because of its biological action as a neuromediator in the mammalian central nervous system and has been shown to have a greater biological activity than its(S)-isomer.Its N-trimethyl derivative,(R)-carnitine(4a),plays a central role in the transportation of fatty acids through mitochondrial membranes.
