Microsatellites are polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based markers that have been developed for a wide range of plant species, including many commercial crops. Among the grain legumes, microsatellite markers are now available for soybeans, chickpea, cowpeas, peanuts and more recently common beans. Microsatellite markers have been developed for common beans from both non-coding (genomic) and coding (genie) sequences containing simple repeats. Our principal objective in this study was to map the both types of microsatellites in a single mapping population derived from the cross DOR364 X G19833 and to integrate this map with the genetic maps developed by Freyre et al. (1998) and Vallejos et al. (1992).
